As a long-time fan of the original Meteorfall, I was skeptical about the shift to a grid-based system, but Krumit's Tale absolutely nails it. It’s one of the most refreshing takes on the roguelike deck-builder genre I've played in years. The tactical depth provided by the 3x3 grid makes every run feel like a high-stakes puzzle.
The presentation is top-tier; the art style is charming and the voice acting for Krumit adds so much personality to the experience. What really keeps me coming back is the 'perk' system, which allows for some truly broken and satisfying synergies. It’s challenging without feeling unfair, and the mobile interface is perfectly optimized for one-handed play. If you like Slay the Spire or Monster Train, this is a mandatory download.
Dinsun here. It’s been decades since I first stepped into Union City, and while the nostalgia hits hard, I’m not one to be blinded by it. Beyond a Steel Sky is a competent adventure that respects its roots. The writing is sharp—Revolution hasn't lost their touch for satirical dystopias—and having Dave Gibbons’ aesthetic fully realized in 3D is a treat for anyone who grew up on 2000AD. Robert Foster and Joey still have that chemistry that made the original a classic.
However, the move to 3D brings the usual baggage. The 'Virtual Theater' AI logic, while clever, can lead to some clunky character pathfinding and awkward pauses. Puzzles occasionally lean toward the obscure, and the performance on mobile devices isn't always as smooth as I’d like for a game of this pedigree. It’s a solid 7, maybe a bit more if you’re a fan of the original, but it lacks the tight, polished simplicity of the 2D era. It’s a good story told through a slightly finicky lens.
Performance: Occasional stuttering during scene transitions; character AI can occasionally get stuck on geometry.
Buy if: You enjoy narrative-heavy cyberpunk stories and traditional adventure game logic.
Skip if: You demand high-action gameplay or a bug-free mobile experience.
Available on: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod

Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale is a second-generation deck-building roguelike that evolves the swipe-based mechanics of its predecessor into a deep, tactical grid-based battler. Players choose from a variety of colorful heroes—each with their own unique deck and playstyle—to clear dungeons and survive the eccentricities of the shopkeeper, Krumit. The game features a distinct art style reminiscent of modern animation, combined with a 'press-your-luck' economy where you must manage gold and health while deciding which items to acquire and which to skip.
The game is available today on Apple Arcade.
